MotoGP: Testing at Jerez Provides Few Surprises

Mar 31, 2012 by

With testing concluded at Jerez, the MotoGP paddock has just two short weeks before the opening round at the Losail International Circuit is underway. Heading into Qatar, there are few surprises from last season though, as the Honda of Casey Stoner continues to dominate the time sheets, while teammate Dani Pedrosa and top-Yamaha man Jorge Lorenzo trail closely behind. Yamaha’s package looks very refined and balanced, and appears to have gained a step on the …

Tech 3 Yamaha Unveils 2012 Livery

Mar 30, 2012 by

Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso show off their new livery design for the 2012 MotoGP season with Monster Energy Yamaha.
Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso show off their new livery design for the 2012 MotoGP season with Monster Energy Yamaha. With anticipation building ahead of the start of the new 1000cc MotoGP World Championship era in 2012, the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team unveiled its exciting new livery at the Jerez circuit in Spain earlier today.

Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso showed off the new design, incorporating the instantly recognisable logo of title sponsor Monster Energy, on the eve of the final pre-season test session, which commences in Jerez tomorrow (Friday).

British rider Crutchlow and Italian Dovizioso have enjoyed a successful pre-season campaign so far, with both posting fast and competitive times during two test sessions at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

The impressive performance of the new Yamaha YZR-M1 1000cc machine means Dovizioso and Crutchlow are both optimistic they can fight for top five finishes when the new sea son gets underway in Qatar on April 8.

Cal Crutchlow #35:
?2012 will be my second season in the MotoGP World Championship and the second season with the Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team and I am really looking forward to it. The team has been working great all through the winter and Yamaha has done a fantastic with the new YZR-M1. Development never stops and I know Yamaha is continuing to work incredibly hard, so I am convinced I can have a much stronger season in 2012 with their support behind me. I learned a lot in my first season and although I still have much less experience than most of my rivals, my target is to be much closer to the front. I have already shown in testing that the 1000cc bike suits my style better and I am able set some very competitive lap times. The level of competition though is once again unbelievably high, but if I can be close to the factory bikes and be top independent team rider, I will be very happy.?

Andrea Dovizioso #4:
?This season is a really important one for me and I am looking forward to going racing after a long winter. We can see that Yamaha has done a very good job with the new YZR-M1 and I believe we will be really competitive. I found a very good feeling with the bike at the last test in Sepang but I still have a lot of work to do to fully understand it because it is completely new for me. But we can clearly see that the Yamaha is a bike with a lot of potential, so I’m really c onfident for the season. At the same time though we will only see our true potential after the first race in Qatar. I have a lot of motivation for this season after finishing third in the World Championship last year, but there are a lot of riders capable of fighting for the title.”

Herve Poncharal ? Team Manager:
?Everybody in the Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team is looking forward to 2012 with a lot of excitement. I believe we have one of the strongest rider line-ups in the history of Tech3 and I am confident Andrea and Cal will deliver some fantastic results. Andrea was third in the overall standings in 2011 and he has already demonstrated by finishing third at the last test in Sepang that he has exceptional talent and he will be very strong on the new Yamaha. Cal has been outstanding throughout the winter and he is clearly riding with a lot of confidence on the 1000cc bike. WE are optimistic that he will be consistently challenging inside the top five. We can aim to see Andrea and Cal fighting for the top five thanks to the incredible support the Tech3 Team receives from Yamaha. I must congratulate Yamaha’s technical staff on the fantastic job they have done with the new YZR-M1. Tech3 is honoured to continue its long collaboration with Yamaha and we look forward to another successful season. I am also thrilled that we were able to sign a new three-year agreement with Monster Energy and continue the close relationship with our valued partners like the Black & Decker Group, including their brands Stanley and DeWalt. I’m also proud to continue our technical partnership with Motul and LeoVince and co llectively we can’t wait for the new season to start in Qatar.?

Lin Jarvis: MotoGP Must Look to Asia, South America for Growth

Mar 29, 2012 by

One subject has dominated the past three years of MotoGP, and indeed all of motorcycle racing. Despite some thrilling racing, technical innovation and both fascinating and tragic stories, the main topic of conversation among those involved in motorcycle racing has been how to cut costs. A raft of new regulations have been introduced, and even more radical changes are currently under discussion for the next few years.

At the official presentation of Yamaha's 2012 MotoGP campaign, Yamaha Racing Managing Director Lin Jarvis spoke to MotoMatters.com about the need for MotoGP to shift its focus, from just tinkering with the technical regulations to trying to expand its audience base and generate more income, taking advantage of new media and a more international audience to tap into new markets and more potential sponsors. "The technical regulations are very, very important, and bringing costs down is very important," Jarvis told us. "But the other thing is how to increase the popularity of the sport, and increase the revenue. Just saving costs is still shrinking."

2012 IRTA MotoGP Jerez Test Day 3 Times, 2pm: Lorenzo Leads Repsol Riders

Mar 29, 2012 by

After yesterday's miserable conditions, the weather at Jerez on Sunday is nearly perfect. The sun is out, the wind has dropped, and the track is plenty warm. The teams are all very busy trying to catch up after losing most of a day yesterday, and the track is very busy, as is the circuit, with over 5,000 fans turning out for the test.

At 2pm, Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo is the fastest man on track, leading the Repsol Hondas of Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner, while Ben Spies completes the Yamaha/Honda sandwich. San Carlo Gresini Honda's Alvaro Bautista is the best of the satellite riders, just a fraction ahead of Cal Crutchlow on the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha. Nicky Hayden leads the factory Ducatis, Hayden 1.3 behind Lorenzo, teammate Valentino Rossi 1.5 slower, though both have closed the gap compared to Friday. Randy de Puniet is the first of the CRT bikes, though today, he is slower than all of the satellite bikes, and nearly two and a half seconds behind Lorenzo.

RJ Says: 100% is Back!

Mar 29, 2012 by

100%? It is how I try to live my life.

In 1982, I got a phone call from a guy I knew at the races. His name was Drew Lien. The conversation went like this:

Drew: I dig your bull dog style and never give up attitude. I’m starting a company and would love to sponsor you. I can’t pay you right now, but I will give you all the free product you can have.

Me: Whats it called?

Drew: 100%

Me: What will you sell?

Drew: Heat shields and numbers.

Me: I’m in…

A few months later, all the top racers ran 100%: Bailey, O’mara, Ward, Glover, Lechien, Kehoe, Holley, and the list goes on.

From that point on 100% has been my life motto. I am giving 100% in whatever I do. Truck racing, coaching, working or loving my family. Win or lose. Happy or sad.

If I am giving 100%, I can go to sleep KNOWING I have done my best.

Drew has past, but his dream lives on. He was a special person with a big dream. God Speed my friend.

HOW MUCH EFFORT DO YOU GIVE?

Ricky Johnson

R4TC: 2010 Ride for the Cure at Cahuilla Motocross Park

Mar 27, 2012 by

I haven’t hit the track much in 2010, but knowing that the 4th Annual Motocross Ride for the Cure Event was coming, I dusted off the KTM, dropped it off at Malcolm Motorsports for some fine tuning, hit Milestone Motocross Track for a handful of warm ups and I was ready to enjoy the funnest event of the year hosted by motocross enthusiast herself, Laurie Carey, who is constantly raising the bar for fundraising, support, education and interaction for Breast Cancer Awareness!

The morning started off amazing, perfect day to moto! The sky’s were bright blue and littered with dark fluffy rain clouds! Dropping rain in perfect track watering patterns, the day was in full swing and the pits were packed! Tons of Factory support lined up for the event, they even had a never ending Freestyle show in the works! Mike Metzger, the God Father of FMX was doing his thing and dozens of other talented riders busting out tricks for the fans.

I pretty much settled into a pack rat of MXGirls, WMA Pro Rider Elizabeth Bash, Race Techs Michelle Marshall, and Mission Motorsports Brooklyn McClendon. We had a blast mixing it up on the main and vet tracks, sporting our decorated “Ride for the Cure” Bra’s and having a blast spinning laps, saving boobies!

In the end I was amazed at the growth this event has accumulated over the years, by far the most impressive outcome I’ve seen. I’m looking forward to next year’s event, but more importantly, it’s touching to see all the work Laurie Carey puts into the Support and Awareness of Breast Cancer.

2nd Annual DC Moto TF Ride Day and Invitational Poker Tournament

Mar 27, 2012 by

Supercross 2011 is right around the corner! So much is going on, both publicly, but also behind the scenes. One public and noteworthy item – DC Shoes has a new three year contract with Monster Energy Supercross!

I was invited to the 2nd Annual DC Moto TF Ride Day and Invitational Poker Tournament at Pala Raceway. It was a full day’s ‘work’ for the DC Athletes; group photos, action shots, interviews, and lots of MX riding at Pala. And there was good game of Poker to raise money for Road 2 Recovery. The list of Athletes sponsored by the DC Shoes brand is a very impressive group making this Supercross assignment unique fun for me!

Attracting Wealth and Abundance

Mar 26, 2012 by

We are always attracting into our lives the predominant thoughts we are experiencing, and we complain later that our lives suck.. Most of the time, we attract by “default” rather than by deliberate choice

When we stop to think about it we only have ourselves to blame. You cannot attract wealth and abundance if you think poverty thoughts, you cannot attract a new car if you a jealous of you neighbors’ new car. You cannot attract wealth if you believe it’s too hard and that it will take a long time or that Joe down the road is wealthy and you is not a nice guy so you say I don’t want to be wealthy like him as wealthy people are not nice people.

So as this Law of Attraction is always working in our lives we are always attracting every moment of every day.. And in doing so if we are thinking about problems then we are going to be attracting more problems that need solving.

I am a Wealth Magnet

You should begin to think of yourself as a magnet that pulls to itself everything that is like itself. For in reality this is exactly what you are, you are a magnet that attract to itself everything that is in vibrational alignment with it. Whether we are actually focused on using the law of attraction or not, we are ALWAYS attracting into our lives the predominant thoughts we are thinking about.

If we are thinking about something we love and enjoy, we are in that moment attracting more things to love and enjoy. If we are thinking about the lack and scarcity in our lives, then in that moment we are attracting more examples of lack and scarcity into our lives.

It’s simple, the is no point making it any more difficult than that, it just is, it is, it is simple and that is all there is about it, and it’s always been… The Law of Attraction can be explained in three words “Like attracts Like

Powerful Law of Attraction.

We don’t always have to be thinking about what we want, we don’t always have to be worried about our thoughts. If you discover that you have been thinking negative thoughts don’t worry, don’t panic, just change your thoughts to positive thoughts.

We are more powerful attractors then most of us realize, by simply living in the moment and enjoying all of it we attract more of the same into our lives, this also includes attracting more money more love more joy and happiness.

You don’t have to worry about all the negative thoughts, just remember that positive thoughts are more powerful then negative thoughts. Positive thoughts area higher vibration then negative thoughts so there attracting power is greater, the more you think positive thoughts, the more you with happiness and wealth for others the more you will attract the same into your life.

DC Moto TF Day with Ryan Morais

Mar 26, 2012 by

Ryan Morais’ goal for a 2010 West Coast Lites Supercross championship came to a screeching halt in just the 3rd round of the series, when another racer landed on the back on his bike, sending both riders crashing to the ground. This unfortunate crash would sideline Ryan for a few rounds, but he would eventually return to racing action in Seattle and finish the season 10th overall points. When the AMA Motocross Nationals came into around, Ryan was ready to get back to racing, but going into the second round he was once again out with an injury. Ryan has been busy the past few months, but is back and ready to set some new goals for the upcoming 2011 series. I spoke with Ryan about what he learned over the past year and his prospects for the new season.

Angela: Well Ryan, here we are just a few short weeks until the first Supercross race of the season; let’s talk about sponsors and the bike?

Ryan: Yeah, DC Shoes stepped up recently and is sponsoring the entire Rockstar Energy Suzuki Team, so I am really excited to be a part of it. I have only been with this sponsor for a few days now and they’re really taken care of the team. I’m with the same team as last year, Rockstar Energy Suzuki, with the same mechanic (Rene Zapata), and the same team manager, and owner, everything is pretty much the same, but Suzuki really is stepping up this year. Last year we were on a 2009 carburetor bike, so we were kind of behind the ball, but this year we are on the new 2011 fuel injected, the whole new chassis and everything, and Suzuki has really helped us out with factory support. Our bikes are pretty much in house bikes, running Shoei Suspension, so everything is looking great. Everyone has been doing a great job and the people at Yoshimura have been doing a lot of testing and getting our bikes dialed in, so I’m excited for Anaheim 1. Our bike should be one of the best ones out there, making things really competitive, and that is very cool.

We have shown pornography CAD renders of the Ducati 1199 Panigale sans fairings before, and immediately heard office doors around the nation close shut while trousers were ruined. You might think ‘How cool is it to be racing professional motocross all over the USA!’ But it’s a lot harder and a lot more work than you might think! There are two obstacles you will always have to face on the track: ruts and corners.  Combine the two and traversing themcan be frustrating.  The power and torque that modern four strokes produce is pretty incredible and lines get dug out quickly.  Corners are the backbone of speed which makes it essential to be extremely [...]

Lorenzo?s four wheeled GP2 experience in Valencia

Mar 20, 2012 by

Invited by the Barwa Addax Team, the Spaniard participated in a private test yesterday with a GP2 series race car at the Valencia circuit.

The 2010 MotoGP World Champion spent the day at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia on Wednesday testing the GP2 Series racer of the Barwa Addax Team. Team owner Alejandro Agag is an acquaintance of Lorenzo’s manager, Mark Hirsch, and invited the rider to experience driving the Formula 1 precursor at the high speed circuit.

Although Lorenzo has engaged in various four wheeled competitions throughout his career, yesterday was the biggest challenge the rider has faced to date: A first generation GP2 car that was raced in the world championship series between 2005 – 2007 and later in the Asia series from 2008 to 2010. An authentic Miura -fighting bull- warned the members of the Spanish team, with a Dallara chassis, Renault V8 engine capable of 600hp at 10,000 rpm, perfectly comparable to Formula 1 cars of the time, but with the challenge of not one electronic driving aid.

The Mallorcan met the challenge brilliantly, meticulously absorbing the advice provided by experienced race car driver Javi Villa, to end the day running within a few seconds of the lap times set by Villa earlier in the day.

“It’s a unique experience, very different to what I’m used to,” said Lorenzo. “It was impressive and although with the bike I go 310 km/h at this circuit, in the car I went about 280 km/h. But to drive so close the ground, it seems like you go much faster so it was very impressive. The braking is amazing, you can brake very, very late- almost inside the corner.”

“I’m happy with the result, although the last few seconds are the hardest to lower and because I’m already leaving, it?s going to stall further progress,” added the Spaniard, although in later sessions after the lunch break and with a new set of tires, Lorenzo continued chipping away at his times and surprising the members of the Barwa Addax Team.

“For the first time out, I?m satisfied because I started to find the limits of the car. Although the racing for me is MotoGP for a lot longer, I hope.” After speaking to motogp.com about the day?s activities, Lorenzo also commented on the statements made yesterday by Lin Jarvis, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, arguing that to secure the title, any team would ideally want to have Jorge Lorenzo or Casey Stoner as their rider.

“At the moment, Casey and I are the favorites right now, but things can change overnight. But it?s true that we are the favorites: We?re still both very young, and are the two who finished first and second last year. It?s logical that the factories want to bet first on those who finished first and second,” said Lorenzo, who ends his contract in 2012 as do the other factory riders.

“But Pedrosa is close and is very fast, and regarding Rossi, what can I say? He has nine titles, more than 100 victories…and then there?s Hayden, Dovizioso and Spies. There are quite a few who could win the Championship.”
