FIM Releases 2012 e-Power Championship Calendar

Dec 31, 2011 by

The FIM has released its 2012 calendar for the e-Power Championship, the motorcycle racing authority’s electric racing series. Disappointingly, though perhaps not surprising, the five-stop schedule is very Euro-centric, with only the Laguna Seca breaking the e-Power Championship out of the Europe. Similar to last year, e-Power will piggyback off other FIM events, and will share its race weekends with the FIM Endurance World Championship, FIM Sidecar World Championship, and MotoGP. Finding a way to justify …

Interview: AMA Women’s Motocross Champion Jessica Patterson

Dec 31, 2011 by

Jessica Patterson is the 2010 AMA Women’s National Motocross Champion. Here is Supercross.com’s latest interview with JP$.

Jessica, congratulations on your 2010 AMA Women’s National MX Championship. You walked away with some amazing trophies from this summer’s race wins …. where do you put all those great awards, and what does it mean to you when you see them?

Thanks Annj. I usually go straight to my parents house and drop them all off and let my mom decorate the house with them. But recently she told me that I have started to bring home too many, and to figure out where to put them at my place because her place is now full.

Her suggestion to me was to rent a storage unit if I didn?t want to keep them all over the house. They are all just hanging out at her house right now, and eventually when I decide where I want to move, then I will take them with me and start the decorating.

To see the trophies is pretty cool. It is what I have been working so hard for, and after struggling for for two years and now coming back and winning the championship in 2010, it makes it that much better. Seeing that I have all those number 1 trophies from each race except for two, it reminds me of how good of a year it really was, so it makes me really happy and makes me want to keep pushing.

2012 MotoGP Calendar Changes: Qatar A Week Earlier, Jerez Confirmed, Calendar Still Provisional

Dec 30, 2011 by

The MotoGP schedule for the 2012 season has been tweaked a little, and there is some good news for fans: the season starts seven days earlier, with the Qatar MotoGP round having been moved up a week to April 8th. The move is in response to the Formula One calendar, which sees the Chinese Grand Prix scheduled for April 15th, the date originally planned for Qatar, and so the decision was taken to start the MotoGP season a week earlier.

The other changes to the calendar are merely confirmations of what had been widely expected. The German GP is now officially set to take place at the Sachsenring, although as the contracts are yet to be completed, the date is still listed as being subject to contract. Those contracts are a mere formality, however, as the ADAC and the regional government came to an agreement earlier this month to keep the German round of MotoGP at the circuit in Hohenstein-Ernstthal. The Jerez round has also been confirmed, with the mayor of the circuit stepping in to ensure the 2012 date. Beyond 2012 is another matter, however, as the circuit is still in financial turmoil, stemming from alterations made back in 2001, and with new rounds in Argentina and Texas scheduled for 2013, Jerez could well be dropped after that date.

Simoncelli Sepang Crash

Dec 27, 2011 by

Italian motorcyclist Marco Simoncelli has been tragically killed in a crash during today’s Malaysian Moto GP, race organisers have confirmed.

The Gresini Honda rider lost control of his bike on the second lap of the circuit in Sepang and appeared to be hit by Colin Edwards and then Valentino Rossi as he slid across the track.

The fatal incident comes just a week after British IndyCar racing driver Dan Wheldon died after crashing in Las Vegas

The 24-year-old’s helmet came off in the collision and he was taken to the medical centre for treatment, but his injuries were too serious.

A message on the MotoGP website read: ‘Marco Simoncelli succumbed to injuries sustained in Malaysia.’

Newly-crowned champion Casey Stoner admitted watching the accident made him worried for Simoncelli, who was later pronounced dead.

‘As soon as I saw the footage it just makes you sick inside,’ the Australian told BBC2.
‘Whenever the helmet comes off that’s not a good sign.’

Tony Elias, Moto2 world champion, said he was praying the injuries to Simoncelli were not serious before learning the devastating news.

‘We just hope Marco is OK – that’s my wish,’ he said.

The organisers confirmed the race was cancelled, having halted it immediately after the fatal incident.

It was confirmed on MotoGP’s official website that he died at 4.56pm local time.

Tributes came in pouring in from his fellow riders soon after the incident.

British MotoGP rider Cal Crutchlow wrote on Twitter: ‘RIP Marco Simoncelli ! A great rider and all round nice guy. My thoughts are with all his family & friends. I will never forget today.’

Good Reasons to Fly Thai Airways.

Dec 27, 2011 by

For anyone who is exhausted by traveling to hotel edison new york city or even stratosphere hotel las vegas you really should watch for options outside US just like the Caymans! As one of Asia’s leading airlines, Thai Airways has been running flights out of Thailand for fifty years and has been gaining in popularity over time. For those traveling for business or pleasure to Thailand and other destinations in Southeast Asia, a high level of comfort and service is provided by Thai Airways.

If you’re taking a Thai Airways flight to Bangkok, you’ll be landing in Suvarnabhumi Airport, which is located conveniently less than an hour from downtown Bangkok. Also known as New Bangkok International Airport, this airport is the main hub for Thai Airways international and domestic flights. Don’t overlook Bangkok itself, regardless of where else you might be going as it is the bustling capital city of Thailand. With over 11 million in population, the crowds of pedestrians and the traffic can be a bit hard to take at first. However, apart from the congestion, it offers a glimpse into the culture and history of Thailand, with ornate palaces, and temples, traditional markets, authentic restaurants and a busy nightlife that can keep you entertained for weeks. Thailand has two sides to it, the traditional and modern that you can see in Bangkok. A new level of service from Thai Airways that offers some of the same luxuries as the more expensive tickets, but for less money is called Premium Economy Class. Wider aisles, more leg room and larger roomier seats to lean back in are offered. These reclining seats will make it easier to relax and fall asleep if you wish. In case you want to use your laptop during the flight, there are power outlets for you to use. If you are interested in this kind of service, check with Thai Airways as Premium Economy Class isn’t offered on all flights.

In 2011,Thai Airways is celebrating its 40th year of offering flights between Thailand and Australia by offering special fares. So if you’re taking a trip to Thailand, you may want to consider extending your trip and seeing Australia as well. Flying out of Bangkok, you can reach the destinations of Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. The discounted fares apply to Economy, Business and First Class, so however you choose to travel, you can get a good deal on travel between these two great countries. Wouldn’t it be fascinating to be compare the differences between Thailand and Australia in one trip. Evan though the two countries aren’t that close together, if you are coming from a distance such as North America, it might make sense to see them both on the same trip. There are many reasons to consider flying with Thai Airways, especially if you’ve always wanted to take a trip to Thailand. There are many other locations, like New Zealand and Australia, that their flights serve, plus many different destinations in Asia. Thai Airways is an award-winning airline, so it should be worth considering if it has flights to where you want to go, which you can find out by looking at its website. And also do not forget to hit the mirage hotel in las vegas when you get home!

RJ Says: Defending a Supercross Championship and season review

Dec 27, 2011 by

After watching the first three supercross races of the 2011 season, I'll share with you what I see at this point.

Two riders that have really impressed me so far are Ryan Villopoto and Trey Canard. Looking at their fitness, their riding technique, their ability to get thru traffic on the race track, both are far beyond what I thought they would be.

I knew Ryan would be fast. But when a rider has been away from racing for a while, as he has, sometimes it takes a while to knock off the rust. Ryan has looked great after his heat races – obviously the training with Aldon Baker has helped him a lot. I can see his fitness, how much he is sweating, and his ability to retain his breath and breathing after both his heats and main events. It's visible that Ryan has leaned down together with Aldon, and he's in awesome condition.

I thought it would take Trey Canard at least half a season in the premiere Supercross class to where he was really comfortable. As I watch Trey in these first three races, there are certain section of the different tracks where he is faster than either Villopoto or James Stewart. Once Trey puts together the whole track, and an entire 20 laps like that – look for him to win some races this year.

Marco Simoncelli

Marco Simoncelli could not fight against serious injury that happened, due to an accident at the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia, Sunday (10.23.11). “Supersic” finally breathed last at 16:56 pm local time or 15:56 pm, although it had received treatment at the medical center circuit.

Horrible accident that occurred on the second lap in the Corner 11. Simoncelli, who was fighting with Alvaro Bautista in the race for fourth spot, unable to control the bike when cornering to the right, so it slipped.

When it fell, he and his motorcycle across the circuit and into the path’s Tech 3 Yamaha rider Colin Edwards, and Ducati rider, Valentino Rossi. Horror accident is inevitable, because the motor Edwards ran over Simoncelli, precisely on the head.

Edwards fell outside the track with a dislocated shoulder injury, and Rossi was still able to control the bike while bouncing off the track and mount GP11.1 Desmosedici damaged. However, Simoncelli flounder on the track with a helmet has been freed from the head (after the overrun), and he did not move.

Immediate red flag was raised over the tragic accident. After waiting some time, the race committee announced that the Malaysian Grand Prix was officially canceled, because the medical team to focus on rescuing Simoncelli, who eventually died at 16:56 o’clock.

News ? Yamaha’s Wayne Rainey

Dec 26, 2011 by

#Yamaha’s #Wayne #Rainey

Wayne Rainey will forever be remembered as one of Yamaha?s greatest stars in an era of the FIM World Championship Grand Prix where talent, technology and speed combined to create some of the most captivating seasons of racing seen in the sport. As a three time 500cc world champion between 1990 and 1992 Rainey?s mastery of steering the ferocious two-stroke machines and his unrelenting determination to always be the best mark him as one of the principal figures of a phase in which names like Lawson, Doohan, Gardner, Schwantz, Kocinski and Mamola entertained millions worldwide. Rainey would eventually rise to the very top of the road racing tree thanks to his exquisite motorcycle handling, dirt-track background and uncanny ability to steer the YZR500 with the rear wheel.

His beginnings in Grand Prix were a little more humble with a season in the 250cc class in 1984 where he took a podium in only his second appearance on the TZ250 but headed back to the USA the following year to grow in status among the burgeoning superbike scene. As AMA Superbike Champion and under the stewardship of Kenny Roberts in 1988 the Californian entered the 500cc class for his second ?shot? at the world championship and rode well to 3rd overall and to record his first victory, using new carbon brake technology at Donington Park in Great Britain. He was part of a memorable three way fight for the title in 1989 with Schwantz and Lawson before recording 35 podiums with 16 wins over the next three years to bring Yamaha to the forefront of the premier class in the new decade.

Rainey continued to develop the YZR500 and was poised to secure another crown in 1993 when he crashed while leading at Misano, only three rounds before the end of the series, and was paralysed from the chest down. 32 at the age of his forced retirement, Rainey completed all of his 95 Grands Prix with Yamaha and picked up a remarkable 65 trophies. After a brief period as Yamaha team manager he withdrew to his home on the Californian coast in Monterey, close to the Laguna Seca circuit and is a regular visitor to the U.S. Grand Prix and well as being a keen kart racer.

Behind the scenes: Team USA for 2010 Motocross of Nations – together for the first time

Dec 25, 2011 by

I was back out at Pala Raceway for something very special. I had already been there for four days for the Finale of the 2010 AMA MX season and the Awards Banquet.

But, as I mentioned, this was something special – the first official get together of Team USA for the 2010 Motocross of Nations. Team Manager Roger De Coster, racers Ryan Dungey, Andrew Short, Trey Canard, and all the support staff needed for an effort like this.

Ryan Dungey, Roger De Coster, Trey Canard, Andrew Short and Mitch Payton

I felt very privileged to be invited to such an event. I soon came to realize that the most unique and moving part of the day was seeing the look of real happiness, the feeling of true honor, and the comraderie for each person involved, as ‘The Team’ came together for the first time. It was contagious. They seem to be a real ‘team’ already, working together well, and have great things to say about each other. Again, it was contagious!

Health Tips You Should Follow Every Day

Dec 19, 2011 by

Even if you do not own the best health insurance for students this beneath can be useful! Common sense, combined with a lot of knowledge in what it takes to be healthy, is the best way to start a path of healthy living. Of course, you also have to put what you learn into practice, as it won’t help you otherwise. Today, having a healthy life is simply a matter of making a choice, because there is so much information available, it comes down to whether you want it or not.

The importance of sleep is becoming more widely recognized by health experts. One reason many people have trouble getting enough sleep is that they don’t keep regular hours. If, for example, you get up at 6 am during the week and 9 or 10 on the weekend, your body will constantly be having to readjust. Jet lag is what you get from flying through various time zones, which is equivalent to this. So everyday you should try and get up at the same time, or close to it. Insomnia can be prevented doing this and you’ll feel more rested. Another tip that’ll make you refreshed is having a nap for twenty minutes, preferably in the middle of the day. One way you may be able to fit this into your work day is to have something to eat and then rest for a short period of time in your car. If you can’t do that then have a nap as soon as you get home, before dinner.

A recent study revealed that sitting down all day is one of the most unhealthiest habits you can have. Fatefully some of our occupations can only be done in a sitting position. There are some ground breaking companies that are bringing in stand up desks. When you are not lucky enough to have a desk like this, it would be a good idea to stand up when you can and walk around a bit. Standing is a critical position your body needs to be in; sitting should only be done as needed. As often as you can, you need to stand and walk for a little bit. This is equally as important when you go home and are kicking back in front of your computer or when you are watching your favorite TV show.

It is very important that you have your own physician. Some people only go to doctors when something is wrong, and they may rely on emergency room services or whatever doctor they can find at the last minute. When you use this method you will end up with physicians that are not familiar with your health condition. Once you have gotten your own doctor, you should feel more secure when you call upon them for assistance. The development of your healthy approach to life can be empowered with the help of a naturopathic doctor or a nutritionist that will show you how important prevention is.

The above health tips can all be effective at maintaining or improving your well being. Remember that good health involves the emotions as well as the body, so take time to do things that bring you pleasure. Your health has been affected by the many decisions you have made, so it is possible that some of them might need to be reversed.
